Curriculum Overview

At P.S. 169 Sunset Park School, we pay close attention to each of our students and offer programs that cater to a diverse population in personalized ways. Find an overview of our programs below.

We teach students to learn math by doing math. Instead of memorizing procedures, students solve meaningful problems, explain their thinking, and collaborate with each other. Our model invites K-5 students to listen to each other’s ideas and explore problems together.

Illustrative Mathematics

Our K-2 phonics program supports a wide range of students at varying levels of comprehension. Instruction is multisensory and supports oral language, fluency, and vocabulary. This program is proven to help students with learning differences like dyslexia.

Edward’s Orton-Gillingham (OG)

HMH

We use an evidence-based approach to reading instruction that teaches the skills students need to read. Students learn reading, writing, and discussion skills to gain topic knowledge from the texts.
